9-Day Tour of Norway

Tour members meet for our flight to Norway. After meals are served according to the flight schedule, sit back and enjoy the on-board entertainment as you prepare for the trip of a lifetime.

We arrive in Oslo, Norway’s capital was founded in 1048 by King Harald Hardrada. It is the largest capital by area in Europe but has only 500,000 inhabitants. It is beautifully situated at the end of the Oslo fjord. We enjoy walking through the city center, viewing from the outside its main sights: Oslo Cathedral, the Munch Museum, and the Royal Palace. Then we transfer to Kongsberg where we will check into our hotel for dinner and overnight.

After breakfast at our hotel, we meet our driver and begin our scenic journey through the Numedal region. We start with a visit to Flesberg Stave Church, followed by a visit to Eidsborg Stave Church and the Visit-Telemark Museum. After lunch on our own, we continue through the scenic Telemark countryside toward Lofthus, taking in the magnificent Norwegian mountain landscape along the way. Upon arrival in Lofthus, we check into our hotel and enjoy our dinner and overnight.

After breakfast, we begin our journey to Bergen. We travel along the beautiful Hardangerfjord, through a region known for its mild climate and picturesque landscape. Along the way, we see apple and cherry orchards stretching along the banks, creating a beautiful contrast with the lush green fields, blue waters of the fjord, and rugged mountain scenery. We continue toward Bergen, with lunch on our own. Upon arrival, we begin our sightseeing of Bergen. We see the historic Bergenhus Fortress, the Cathedral, and the Old City Hall, and explore the famous waterfront area of Bryggen and the Fish Market (subject to opening hours). We also enjoy a round-trip journey on the Fløien Funicular, giving us panoramic views of Bergen and the surrounding landscape. We then continue to our hotel in Bergen, check in, and enjoy the remainder of the evening at leisure. Dinner is on our own this evening, followed by our overnight stay in Bergen.

After breakfast, we depart Bergen, traveling via Voss to Flåm. Here, we experience one of Norway’s most popular attractions with a round-trip journey on the Flåm Railway between Flåm and Myrdal. During our 20-kilometer railway journey, we experience the breathtaking natural beauty of Norway, with snow-covered mountain peaks, deep valleys, rushing waterfalls, and small farms nestled into the mountainsides. We then board a fjord cruise from Flåm to Gudvangen, where we are surrounded by steep mountains and pass impressive waterfalls and small farms tucked into the mountainsides. Upon arrival in Gudvangen, we meet our driver and continue toward Vangsnes, with a stop en route at Hopperstad Stave Church, viewing it from the outside. We then take the ferry from Vangsnes to Dragsvik and continue by coach to Balestrand. Upon arrival, we check into our hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight is in Balestrand.

After breakfast, we drive to the Dragsvik Pier, where we board the ferry to Hella. From Hella, we continue to Briksdal Glacier, where we have time to explore this spectacular destination at our leisure. We can hike to the glacier or, for those who prefer, Troll Cars are available on-site at our own expense. We enjoy a buffet-style lunch at a local restaurant (included) before continuing through the beautiful fjord scenery toward Stryn. From Stryn, we travel onward to Hellesylt, where we have time to explore the village on our own, including the village center, waterfall, and harbor. We then continue to Geiranger, one of Norway’s most spectacular destinations, surrounded by dramatic mountains and magnificent fjord scenery. Upon arrival, we enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure and overnight in Geiranger. Dinner is on our own.

After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and begin our journey from Geiranger toward Oslo. We drive along the spectacular Geiranger Scenic Route to Dalsnibba Skywalk, weather permitting. From this viewpoint, we enjoy panoramic views overlooking the Geirangerfjord and the surrounding mountains. If weather conditions do not permit the Dalsnibba visit, we will instead have a photo stop overlooking the Geirangerfjord. We continue to Lom, where we visit the historic Lom Stave Church. Located in the city center, Lom Stave Church is considered one of the most beautiful stave churches in Norway. Built around 1170 and enlarged in the 17th century, the church has a distinctive cross-shaped outline. We continue to Ringebu for a photo stop at Ringebu Stave Church, followed by lunch on our own. We then continue through the scenic Norwegian countryside toward Oslo. Upon arrival, we check into our hotel and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight is in Oslo.

After breakfast, we begin with a full-day sightseeing tour of Oslo. We begin with a visit to Vigeland Sculpture Park, followed by the Holmenkollen Ski Jump and Ski Museum, the Fram Museum, and the Kon-Tiki Museum. Lunch is on our own before continuing our sightseeing with a visit to Akershus Fortress, viewing it from the outside, traveling along Karl Johans Gate, and seeing the Royal Palace. We also visit the Historical Museum. Throughout our day in Oslo, we experience the city’s unique combination of historic landmarks, museums, cultural attractions, and lively streets. After our sightseeing, we enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before returning to our hotel in Oslo for overnight.

After breakfast at our hotel, we meet our driver for our transfer to the airport. We board our flight home, bringing our Norwegian adventure to an end.
