Pearl of the Alps

Today we make our way from Salzburg to Prien on the bank of Lake Chiemsee. After a boat trip, we reach the calm island Herreninsel for a visit of one of Germany’s loveliest royal attractions, the magnificent Herrenchiemsee Palace. Built in the 19th century by King Ludwig II, this royal landmark sits among picturesque Bavarian scenery of majestic lakes and mountains. With elegant gardens, walkways, and ornate interiors of gold, glass, and porcelain, this palace reflects pure opulence. Some even say that many of its features, like the vast Hall of Mirrors, surpass those of the Palace of Versailles. Then we return by boat to Prien and continue by coach along the Inn Valley to Tyrol’s Capital, Innsbruck, also called “Pearl of the Alps”. During our guided walking tour through the historic Old Town, we see the fabled “Gold Roof” palace, an impressive cathedral, and some other sites. Finally,  our Fam tour will take us to our hotel in one of the surrounding villages.

Oberammergau and Munich

Today our Fam tour will bring us to Germany’s most visited castle, Neuschwanstein, perched high up on a mountain in the Alps. The shimmering white towers of the castle almost touching the clouds are instantly recognizable to many. Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle was inspired by Neuschwanstein. To visit it is to step inside a fairy tale. We will have a terrific photo opportunity here on our Fam tour. “Mad” King Ludwig II realized this architectural dream, and it became world-famous. The majestic facade conceals an unbelievable splendor inside: very exquisite furniture, luxurious decors, and masterly artistry. The journey will continue to beautiful Wieskirche, a parish church from the baroque period. After the visit, we continue to the “Passion Play village with heart” in the Alps, Oberammergau. We tour the village, and we have a close look at the Passion Play theater where the performances in 2020 will take place. Our local guide will also show us the backstage area as well. The last visit of this day brings us to the monastery of Ettal with its famous basilica and the huge monastery-buildings. Then we the return to our hotel in Austria for overnight. Today we drive to the capital city of Bavaria, Munich. After arrival, we will enjoy a walking tour through the historic Old City of Munich. It consists of famous buildings and squares, including the Marienplatz with the town hall and its “Glockenspiel” along with the “Frauenkirche” (Church of our Lady) with its distinctive onion dome towers. And of course, we will cross the Viktualienmarkt. In the afternoon, we have some leisure time to do some shopping or explore the city on our own. Our farewell dinner will be served in a typical Bavarian restaurant. Overnight stay will be in Munich. Today it is time to say Goodbye to our Germany Fam tour.  After check-out at our hotel, we transfer to Munich airport for our flight back home. We arrive in the U.S.A same day.
